No Frills Iron Campers Find Another Way
From Iron Camp
Director Larry Parker - "Looks like there was a big mudslide on 87 -- we may all need to take the detour"
Mudslide-closed Northway may take weeks to reopen
"LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. -- A mudslide left a stretch of the main highway
through the Adirondacks covered with boulders and rushing water
Tuesday, and officials said it could be at least next week before a
16-mile section of the Northway reopens.
Torrential rains Monday caused a mudslide that clogged a culvert,
sending water over a short section of the Northway west of Lake George.
By Tuesday, two of the highway's four lanes _ one northbound, one
southbound _ had collapsed under the onrush and officials were unsure
how long it would take to clear out the rocks, mud and water.
"...Unfortunately, you can't rule out the possibility of more showers on
Wednesday, Thursday and even into Friday"
