"COACH" JOE KLEINERMAN, 1912-2003
NYRR founder, board member emeritus, beloved friend, and supporter of running Joe Kleinerman died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, November 11, at age 91. NY Road Runners mourn "Coach" Joe’s passing but celebrate his long, full life.
The annual race staged in his honor will take place on Sunday, December 14, in Central Park. For each participant, NYRR will donate $1 to a scholarship fund established by NYRR and Joe this past July. The Joe Kleinerman Scholarship will be awarded annually to a runner who is graduating from a New York City public high school and continuing on to college.

2004 NYC Triathlon to be held in JUNE?
"Due to scheduling conflict with the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics, the date of the 4th Annual New York City Triathlon has been changed to a yet to be determined date.
The new date and race schedule for 2004 should be finalized by November 21, 2003"
2003 Ironman Triathlon World Championship To Air On NBC Saturday, December 6th
NBC Shares Ironman’s 25th Anniversary with Viewers Across the Country on Saturday, December 6th, 5:00 – 6:00 P.M. and 8:00 – 9:00 P.M. (EST); the 2003 Ironman Triathlon World Championship, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, Approximately 90 minutes of the Ironman broadcast. Commentator: Al Trautwig.
For the thirteenth consecutive year, NBC will captivate viewers with a look into the world’s most famous endurance event, the Ironman Triathlon World Championship. This year’s broadcast makes an exciting move to prime time, with a new two-part format. The show will begin with a lead-in broadcast from 5-6 p.m. and the signature presentation to follow from 8-9 p.m.
Taped on location in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii on Oct. 18, the Ironman Triathlon hosted 1,649 athletes from nearly 50 countries around the world, including the United States. The broadcast leads viewers on a 140.6-mile journey through the crystal blue waters in Kailua Bay, Kona’s scorching lava fields onto the extraordinary finish line on Ali’i Drive. They will follow competitors as they embark on the most challenging test of mind and body, incorporating a 2.4-mile ocean swim, a 112-mile bike and a 26.2-mile run, in succession within the allotted 17-hour timeframe.
In an anniversary race where past champions, Peter Reid, 34, Canada, and Lori Bowden, 36, Canada relived another impressive victory, NBC also takes a look at several other talented athletes who’s courage and determination helped them each succeed at this year’s race.

IRONMAN FLORIDA 2004 IS FILLING UP FAST
The 2004 Ironman Florida Triathlon at Panama City Beach is filling up fast. As of 3pm on Sunday, there are 1300 on-line entries and two to three hundred who signed up at the Panama City race site this morning.
The 2004 event is expected to be full by Monday.
On-Line Registration is at Active.com and the database of registered participants will be available here shortly.

Tentative race results from the 2003 race are available here and in a searchable database on the Ironman Florida website.
RACE IMAGES
