DIE ON THE 4th of JULY?

The Morristown, NJ, July 4th "Tri on the 4th of July", which last year saw horrible conditions and many, many unhappy athletes, has topped itself with what promises to be the most brainless move of the year.

Last year's race, on a day with temps in the 90's, saw a shallow water swim (with some folks running through most of it) and a run that was painfully short of water (and, apparently, common sense by the race director).

A strong note of caution is in order here - we have learned that this year's course is being run in reverse, with the swim (which has been moved to deeper water) being last. The race now offers what the tired triathlete needs - a chance to drown following a bike and run.

Are wetsuits allowed? Ever try to put on a wetsuit after a ride or run?

Note that this race does not carry a USA Triathlon sanction.

The 2003 Entrants page shows no names right now. Hmmm...ever read that waiver you sign at the bottom of your race entry? Bring a lawyer with you.
HEY MATT - YOU JUST WON THE ST ANTHONY'S TRIATHLON - NOW GIVE THE TROPHY BACK...

And the winner isn't ...

Hours after first runner to finish is honored, a check of times determines Maryland man actually finished the course faster.

IRON-BANDITS BEWARE !

New Ironman North America policy puts the bite on bandit racers.

Bandit racers are athletes who either use another persons’ spot at an event to race, or give their spot to another athlete to race in their stead. This creates a very serious problem for events and race organizers, because athletes who race as bandits are not covered via USAT insurance, which covers athletes competing in the event.

Recently a bandit situation occurred at the 2002 Ironman Florida triathlon. The two athletes, both the athlete who raced under an assumed name, and the athlete who provided the spot to the racer, were banned for life from Ironman North America events.

Athletes who are caught either racing as bandits or providing spots to other athletes will be banned for life from Ironman North America events. This is a non-negotiable policy and will be strictly enforced.
